How to Improve Your Instagram Reach

When running your business’s Instagram account, it’s crucial that you know your audience’s behavior and what kind of content they respond to (not to mention how they usually respond). However, with Instagram’s new algorithm giving preference not to the latest, most recent content but rather to the accounts users engage with the most, companies need to learn how to make the algorithmic changes work for them.

First of all, you need to see when during the day your followers are most inclined to like a post or view a video of yours. If you have the new Instagram Business Profile, then you can hit the Insights button and scroll down you pass the demographics and are able to switch views between the most popular days of the week and most popular hours of the day. So if your data is showing that your followers tend to interact most with your content at 4pm and you only have the resources to produce one post per day, do it at 4pm and pair it with an Instagram story to get extra mileage out of your content.

In addition to collecting your own data, it also helps to keep an eye on what exactly your competitors are doing and when they are doing it. To follow the competition in real time, simply follow your competitor, press the “More” button and select turn on post notifications to be alerted each time they make a post. If this competitor has both been on Instagram for some time and has scored considerable success with it, you might want to note when they are updating and what content is resonating with their fans.

If your company has a small social and content marketing department, and especially if you are in charge of both, it can be easy to fall behind your posting schedule. To avoid this, simply send yourself calendar reminders as to when you should post.

By coming up with a consistent posting schedule that is aware of what kind of posts get what kinds of reactions and when, you can ensure that your IG audience’s engagement grows, making it so that your account is often at the top of their feeds. Even if you only post once a day, be sure to focus on quality always over quantity.
