How Snapchat Memories Can Enhance Your Social Presence

When it came out, Snapchat revealed a deep-seated and latent desire for ephemeral content, with stories not lasting more than 24 hours at most. The content people created using Snapchat was native to the platform and thus users could not draw upon their camera roll to add different perspectives to their stories. However, Snapchat now lets you publish multiple snaps and pictures from your camera roll in a single story-like Memory.

When using Snapchat, you will know see a smaller circle in the bottom middle of your screen beneath the Capture button. This is the Memories button and upon hitting it you’ll see two tabs, one marked Photo Roll and another Snaps, the former allowing you to access your camera’s photos and the other containing all of your snaps. Then begin going through the different images and videos, selecting one to serve as a single Memory or a series to create a more story-like Memory. Now, this wouldn’t be Snapchat without some considerable privacy features, and this includes a My Eyes Only designation, which hides your content behind a password-protected wall unless someone else uses your phone.

Once you begin sharing memories, Snapchat will provide you with a variety of options for sharing, saving, and presenting content from Snapchat. Just take a snap and then press the tray icon to save it to Memories. When you go into Memories, you will see the snap there and to edit it, press and hold on the image. From there you can increase the duration, add doodles and other custom elements, and even share the Memory as a snap with your friends.

One important trick to keep in mind: as of publication, Snapchat did not allow users to manually rearrange their Memories, with Snapchat putting them in the order based on their time stamps. So if you’re looking to do a more story-based Memory, be cognizant of the order in which you take your pictures. Once you have all of your images taken, click on the Create Story icon and begin bringing your images to life through the Story function. After you share your Memories story to Snapchat (via your story or a private snap to a friend), a white border will set it apart as a Memories creation.

Now when it comes to using your Memories for marketing purposes, companies are already showcasing the power of this new function, which has more robust editing features alongside camera roll accessibility, meaning your Memory stories can be more intricate and better suited to engage, educate and communicate with your audience.  Although this is still a new feature, already we’re seeing it surge in popularity amongst users so start experimenting with Memories and see just what you can do!
